I received Arts Council Project Grant funding for a research and development project to create an immersive world built inside a disused space, which could be freely explored by the audience. I brought in Ruthie Ford to work on this with me and we researched and developed every aspect of it. We developed a design for a richly detailed experience that contained multiple art installations and sets which were linked together by tunnels and corridors. We thought in depth about how to build a world that truly felt like stepping into another reality, and consulted with an immersive set designer and other people who had relevant knowledge. Music was an important element and we had meetings with musicians and sound artists about how this side of it would work. We also researched the many practical and logistical elements including finding a space to do it in, health and safety and bringing together a production team.

This set and video were made as part of the R&D project. I designed the set and developed the concept for the video. We built the set from scratch to resemble a hallway of a house. The interior is purposefully drab and mundane but has hints to something more, the pictures on the walls are images of natural textures. Over the course of the film, nature reclaims the space, filling it with foliage and vines, while the door constantly hints at something unknown beyond. The music was commissioned especially for it and created by Avital Raz and Conor Nutt.
